Death of an online friend

My heart is breaking as I write this post.

I have mentioned a game in DST that I participated in a few months ago where I gained a few friends from different parts of the world. I have "met" wonderful and talented girls and one of them is Belladonne.

Belladonne was an old soul. She loves vintage and anything in the Victorian era, hence her kit designs. She saw to it that she'd be gracious to those who give props to her creations and have always been appreciative of things. It is just very devastating to hear about her death.

Belladonne, I would like to think that you just had to let us know about your accident before you finally left this world. I am consoled by the fact that you have spiritual prepared yourself to meet your Maker. I pray that in His own time, He shall also turn our mourning into dancing for you are now in a much better place. Now that you have gone ahead of us, I am almost sure that there will be somebody who would watch over us and intercede for us in heaven. So long, dear Bella, we all love you and I know we will all finally be scrapping our ass as we meet again someday.

My Teacher, My Hero

It is the World Teachers' Month once again and for this month I am planning to write letters to the memorable teachers I've had when I was still in school. I have always wanted to pay tribute to them but never found a chance so I am going to write about them in the coming days.

Last week, our school launched the Teachers' Month and a pupil from Grade 3 gave a speech about his previous advisers which included me. That pupil belonged to the very first batch of kids I have handled and the first is always memorable. It was my first time to be commended by a pupil and I was overwhelmed with what he had said. Now I think it is time for me to give back to my teachers, and if you remember your first teachers, previous math teachers, or any teacher you remember, why not write them a letter, blog about them, or if you're not the wordy type of person, give them a gift?

Our teachers molded us to become what we are now. We have spent more hours in school than at home and we're always in the hands of our teachers - it is now time to give back and pay them with adulation that they deserve.

Going Template Gaga

Crisp, edgy, unique, and out of this world. These are the immediate words I can think of to describe Studio Basic Designs' style. They're classy too!

I love templates and if you have read my raves about them, you'll realize that I get crazy obsessed with them because I don't have the kind of imagination other scrappers have. I rely on templates and thank God I have found Studio Basic Designs! Take a closer look at some of her creations.

I always say that I am a clean and simple type of scrapper, and I think I still am, but now I have learned to experiment and modify my taste. That's what the inspiration is for right? I am a fan of Juliana aka Ju Kneipp Designs from CatScrap. I attempted to apply for her CT but got rejected and that's alright since I had a chance to interact with her (and gave me freebies). To see Juliana's creations, click on her ad below.

So why do I think Juliana's hilarious? See, some 7 months ago, when she rejected my CT application, I sent her a question in twitter whether she's having a sale or not. Is August the Ghost Month?

In Chinese Feng Shui, the month of August is considered to be the ghost month thus no major house construction should be made because it will bring bad luck. However, I think of it as baseless. I think it actually depends on what you believe in. Like me, I don't really consider August to be a ghost month because good things come my way during the month of August. I personally think that July is my ghost month because I always lose money every month of July. I always get robbed. =(

Anyway, I have a new baby. I have always wanted to buy a domain but since this blog is already established in a sense that I actually have followers (LOL), I bought a new domain with an ambitious niche. Hope you'll be able to visit and say hi to my new baby too. ;) Pretty please?

Hello everyone! I know I have been out for the longest time because of countless seminars that I had to attend to. The seminars were great as they were funded by the UNICEF. I gained a lot of new knowledge and was also able to refresh some old ones.

Scrapping wise though, I know that I have been MIA. I filed for my leave of absence to my CT explaining my situation and I am glad that they were able to understand my ordeal. I totally miss photoshop and the relaxation that scrapping gives me. However, I seem to have lost my mojo from the long break! Haha! So I am here once again cramming myself to get back that mojo and do some scrapping. I am glad for the presence of templates because if not for them, people with the "scrapblock" cannot get back to their knees and that's a serious matter in digiworld.

Seriously, I am meaning to make this blog exclusively for my memes and digital scrapbook stuffs but I just can't resist with this feeling of elation that Sebastian Vettel won in the F1 race in Sepang, Malaysia earlier today.

So I was not an original fan of Grand Prix and I honestly thought of it a boring. But I do know Michael Schumacher and Mika Häkkinen while I was growing up, but that was it.

Until this young and vibrant driver from Germany named Sebastian Vettel, I am so impressed with his record and the way he downplays his winnings. I like a humble guy of course. And the fact that he keeps his private life private (read: he doesn't bring his girl to his competitions) which makes the women swoon and drool. LOL.

So I am happy with Vettel's win today and I am rooting for him to their next race in Shanghai. Go Red Bull!

Eating Fondue in a Sunshine

The Vacation: Singapore

Okay where should I start? Singapore. Oh Singapore is a small place. I never thought I’d like it there. We hired a private van for the duration of our trip so transportation is not a least bit of a hassle on our part. And since I was the one assigned on the itinerary and accommodation, I researched a lot about the city. Before we went to the hotel, I briefed my cousins about the do’s and don’ts and their expectations. I knew that orientation was kinda boring but at least I have to tell them that.

In comparison to Hong Kong, Singapore is not congested and the landscape is way much better. You can see trees and flowers and there were pink bougainvilleas that almost looked like cherry blossoms. The landscape was a sight to behold. Our hotel was even nicer than my expectations because we were greeted by Filipino bellboys so we felt already at home. We chose Peninsula Excelsior to be our place to stay because from the reviews I have read, it is near everywhere. As in you can reach the spots just by walking, and the reviews were right! Plus we also get free breakfast and a high speed internet connection also for free at 10MBps.

On our first day at Singapore, we had to wait for my mother and cousin to arrive and when they did, that’s when we started to explore. We walked. And walked. And walked. We walked a lot and we didn’t mind, everything’s an eye candy. I particularly like the tunnels and the flowers. There were practically botanical plants wherever we go.

Our second day was spent at Sentosa Island. As usual, we had long walks and contrary to our first day's weather which was fair, our Sentosa day was hot. Scorching hot.

Sentosa is an activity haven. If you like beach and sports, you should definitely go there. Plus you get tons of look at sexy women too.

But everything has a price. And they are pricey if I may say. We just tried on the 3D and 4D attractions and the Luge which we all really enjoyed. Plus of course, the must see Songs of the Sea presentation. We should have seen the 7:40PM show because we were all tired from all that walking that we didn't bother to go out to eat when we arrived at the hotel that night. However, the sunset is gorgeous!

We went to Universal Studios on our third day and before we left the hotel, we all made a pact that all of us should ride the roller coasters. Luckily, when we entered USS, we saw Frankenstein and he agreed to pose for a photo with us. Only us! He left the Hollywood Street after we had our picture taken.

We went to see Lights, Camera, Action! first and we had a great time. We were watching the special effects in front so we got splashed a little. And after that, I couldn't believe my eyes, I saw the Streetboys perform!

I knew the Streetboys are regular performers at USS but I totally forgot about them as my mind's straight on the roller coaster rides. Okay for the information of my non Filipino readers, they're a dance group in the Philippines and they used to be BIG and my high school classmates are all ga-ga over them.

So after their show, we went to ride the heart stopping Battlestar Galactica in Cylon. Including my mom of course. And then after the ride, all of them were traumatized so my cousin and I tricked them into riding Revenge of The Mummy (which is an indoor roller coaster) and Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure. We told them that the Revenge of the Mummy was just a train ride to see the artifacts and the Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure was just a boat ride to see the dinosaur exhibit. They were stupefied and we laughed at them with so much gusto! But of course they had fun. We were all drenched after the Rapids ride though.

And we also got to watch the Waterworld attraction which we did not regret. It was like watching a real movie shooting.

I have to say that I can post hundreds of pictures but I just put them into a minimum for obvious reasons. We did a lot of things there too like shopping. haha! So there goes my Singapore visit.

The Vacation: Part Undecided

So our vacation is over and I do not know how to sum it up in an entry or two, or probably three that's why the title has the "undecided" tag line. Anyway, as I have said (or did I ever?) my mom left ahead of us because she has to attend a seminar in Manila. The day before our departure was my pupils' graduation and so are the paperworks that I have to get done. I got everything alright, but that also meant me being stressed out plus the fact that my aunt and uncle wanted me to follow up on their Shengen visa application as they will be going on a cruise this May. Yep, that's me, everybody's secretary, though I am not complaining.

So the day of our departure was full of excitement, my aunt and uncle drove all of us at the airport, paid for our tax fees and made sure we had plenty of food and chips to bring to the flight. We were good. Until there was an announcement that our flight is going to be delayed. Doomed. So my cousins and I brought out all our chips and gobbled them all up before we even boarded in the plane. A cousin of mine, not at all contented with the food, went out to eat at a nearby eatery. So what? We eat a lot! We consumed all the food that we brought (there were two duffel bags of food more but those were already in the checked in baggages) and we have nothing left to consume once we're in Manila.

So our flight was supposed to be at 1:45 but it turned out to be at 3:00, we arrived at the NAIA Terminal 3 at around 4PM met another cousin who will be coming with us but comes from a different city, and then met my mom. We are all fine and dandy until I helped my mother check in. It was kind of a shock because apparently there were some glitches in her tickets and that could not be re-booked or refunded. Another doom. After almost fighting with the airline staff about their incompetencies and absurd fare conditions, my mom said that she will back out of the trip. I, then calculated all the costs that we will be losing as against to the cost of purchasing another ticket in a skyrocketed price plus the fact that I wouldn't want to experience Singapore without her. I closed my eyes, took out my wallet and counted my money. I paid more than 12 thousand pesos for my mother's flight from Manila-Singapore but what the heck, one should never ever count money when it comes to your parents right? When I paid, I saw my mom look at me in disbelief and kept saying, "No. No. No." and "Are you sure?" I shrugged her off and told her it's just money and I am going to earn that again. However, it turned out that my mother cannot be with us in our flight because it is all fully booked so we opted for her to catch the first flight for the next day and told her to go to my brother's girlfriend to rest and prepare for her flight. We were settled.

And so there we were, lining up at the immigration in order for us to board the plane. We all had coffee, had our little chitchats, ate again, and took a quick visit at the loo. Until it was 30 minutes before our flight, my cousin realized that his passport was missing. We were all so dumbfounded. We searched for his passport, my other cousins went to the paging counter while the others went to the xray section to check if he left his passport there. All to no avail. And the plane's about to leave! We were in panic. My cousin told us to go and board the plane and his brother accompanied him in looking for the passport. While we were lining up at the boarding section, we called our aunt and she was in panic too. My cousin went to the security and requested to have a look at the CCTV camera just to check whether someone picked his passport or he left it somewhere. The airport security told them that they can show the footages only after a desired time. So my cousin, who accompanied the one whose passport is missing decided to board the plane with us instead of paying thousands of pesos more if they both miss the flight.

When we arrived at Singapore, we contacted our aunt who told us that my cousin's passport was found. Apparently, some idiot guy flying to Ho Chi Min picked up my cousin's passport by mistake at the xray section of the airport. He only noticed it when he's about to board the plane and the ground crew found out about it. We never knew the guy's name but I sure hope he'll suffer from diarrhea. He caused us stress and not to mention another plane ticket! On the brighter side though, at least my mom has someone to accompany her on her flight the next day as the two of them are on the same flight as well.

So that's how dramatic our trip was. AND WE HAVEN'T LEFT THE PHILIPPINES YET!

....and it's VACATION TIME!

Yay! The Preschool Graduation was held this morning and I am done with my reports, gave my boss a gift for her birthday tomorrow, did a bit of grocery shopping, changed Philippine Pesos to U.S. Dollars, printed our e-tickets and packed my stuffs! I am so ready to go on a vacation and nothing can stop me now.

Although I am suffering from separation anxiety because my kids won't come with me but I know I can manage. Besides, my eldest is also going out of town tomorrow as he and my brother are going to attend our cousin's graduation in Koronadal City. And to watch new movies too -that's his main goal, I think. And my twins are going to be with my dad who like any other grandparent, is a spoiler. Knowing that my kids are going to have fun while I am away keeps me sane and ready to have a blast.

However, I still haven't finished our itinerary and there is just one small detail of the vacation that irks me. I don't like freeloaders and abusive people. Most of all, I don't like big men who doesn't have a job. Okay let's leave it at that.

Going back to the Graduation Ceremony of my pupils, it was rowdy. And when you have VIP guests watching, you wouldn't want to leave a bad impression that my pupils do not know how to behave properly especially in a solemn ceremony. But anyway, it was a success and there were lots of food LOL! Look at the photos closely and you'll have an idea on how they are at their BEST behaviors.

Looking at the photos, I am sure going to miss these kids. They are the noisiest batch but the most intelligent so far. Here's my motto now: With great intelligence comes with a great misbehavior.

The $10 Story

I am not supposed to blog today because I am supposed to be focusing on working about my class' program invitation but there is one incident that happened today that I cannot get over with.

This morning, my father woke me up so that I could go to the market and buy the usual stuffs that we needed to stock in our freezer. Along with our nanny, I went to the market and did my thing. I found a young ox's tail and thought of cooking ox tail in peanut butter sauce. I bought the tail and the needed ingredients for my recipe planning to cook it tomorrow since I am going to school for an overtime work. After going to the market, I went to school along with my twins but since the computer room's closed and my boss' daughter accidentally brought the key with her, I decided to go home instead and buy a tub of ice cream and cook the recipe I had intended to cook tomorrow.

So there I was in my kitchen battle mode when my kids called on my father because apparently, someone was looking for him. I peeked at the gate to take a look on who the person is and noticed the man who used to work with my father(my father retired last December). Since I know the man, I told my father to go out.

Okay for a quick side story. My father worked for the government owned water service company and is known to help people like paying others' water bills just so the particular family won't be cut with their water services. Sometimes, he pays for other's electricity bill as well lol. I have always admired that about my father but there are some who are mendicant and abuse my father's kindness that they would go and ask money almost every month because of a death of a family, relative, hospitalization of a child, delayed work pay, and whatbejeezus, just name it. And my father is not even in politics! LOL. So my point is, that's why I take a look first on who the person looking for my dad so that I can warn him about not giving too much.

So back to the story. I know the man looking for my father because he's one of the veterans in the water district engineering division and was under my father since I was a child. He seldom comes to our house but I have always known him because whenever we see each other downtown, he always recognizes me. Anyway, when my father went out to talk to him, I took a peek and heard the man saying something like, "Sir I have a favor to ask." I did not eavesdrop anymore since I was busy slicing the vegetables. The man and my dad talked for a while and when I was finished with the vegetables I peeked again at them and saw my father counting money and giving it to the man who took out his handkerchief to wipe away his tears. I was crushed.

So I told my mom about it and she herself wondered why so when the man went home, my mother asked my dad what it was all about. My father said, "He was just asking if he could loan some money." Then my mom asked how much he wanted to borrow and my dad said Php500.00 ($10). My mother was appalled because the man cried for a $10 loan so she asked my father why he cried to where my father replied: "I don't know. When I took out my wallet and counted the money he started to cry."

I was stunned. It was a slap on my face. I had a $30 body scrub and massage last Thursday and there was a man who cried for a $10 loan. I just wonder what I could do to help others like that as well. I know that Japan's suffering from the earthquake and tsunami and my heart goes all out for them. But then there are people I know and see almost everyday who also needs my help. Prayers can do wonders I know but don't get me wrong, cash is what they mostly need.

Every time my friends and I are busy to the point of not being able to log on to our emails, we say this mantra just so we will remember how fortunate we are to be doing something and realize that we are worthy in this world. I AM BLESSED TO BE STRESSED. Indeed I am!

So what keeps me busy? Three things. First is this Kindergarten Playhouse that I had put up where my pupils are going to have a mini talent show. The purpose of this event is to showcase that our school is not only focusing on the academic performance of the pupils but also considering the skills of each child in performing arts. Okay okay so it's preschool, my real purpose for my pupils is to let them do their thing on stage and gaining self confidence by performing for a large audience. This Kindergarten Playhouse will be shown on March 15.

The second thing is the Graduation Day of my Preschool pupils which will be on March 24. So little time so much to do. And of course, lastly, the vacation I will be having with my mom and cousins which will be on the 25th. Ironic huh? A vacation keeping me stressed out? Haha! But see, I am the one in charge of our itinerary and we will be going to Singapore and Malayasia and it is going to be my first time there. So whatever will be will be. God bless me and my beautiful body. And by this I mean health. LOL.

Anyway, I am honored to be a part of Digiscrappers Brasil! I applied to be one of their creative team members and I got in! As an opening salvo in being with DSB, here are some layouts I created using the kits of the fabulous designers I am working with there.

The designers are so cool and even though all of them are obviously from Brazil and they speak Portuguese, they really extend their arms in welcoming non Portuguese speakers like me.

The Visit

Something interesting and heartrending happened today. I was at my wit’s end in conducting a long and hard exam to my pupils when I saw a familiar figure standing by our classroom door. I can recognize that man even if I haven’t seen him for two years. He was my pupil’s father. He was this stage father I have encountered during my first year in teaching wherein his daughter was our first honor that school year. After graduation, they moved to another city and haven’t been in town since then. Until today. I was so happy to see him because I miss his little girl so much. See, that little girl knows how to cheer me up especially when I am having a bad day. She’s smart, cheerful and intelligent. She even promised to build me a swimming pool once she becomes a CPA. Those are just sweet talks but it’s really touching.
When I talked to her father, I asked how she is doing in her new school. I learned that my former pupil is still on top of her class but is having a hard time in their Arabic lessons although she copes up pretty well. And then the father said something that really melts my heart. He said, “Nandito lang ako ma’am para bumisita sa iyo at magpasalamat sa lahat ng kabutihan na ginawa mo sa anak ko.” (I am here just to visit and thank you for all the goodness you have done to my child) I didn’t mind it then but now that I think about it, it really meant something. I swear I can cry happy tears right this moment.

Teaching is not a thankless job especially when you see your former pupils visit you from time

to time and smile at you. I swear I am even more moved when those pupils who were troublemakers come up to you and say: “You used to teach me this, right ma’am?”

Whenever my co-teachers and I convene and share stories about the pains and hardships of being educators, we always rant that whenever we compute grades or make reports we have this same notion of filing a resignation letter BUT whenever we see our pupils go up the stage to perform or receive an award, we are taken to a different kind of high that makes us love our job a hundred times.

I am a preschool teacher where 70% of my pupils have no resources to buy papers, pencils, notebooks or books. Most of my pupils’ parents do not know how to read so they cannot teach their children at home for further follow up. And knowing that I have imparted something genuine to the kids is more than enough to make me love my job and my profession more and more each day. I am in a cloud nine.

A modern day pirate is a virtual pirate. That is when one loves torrent files and thinks of it as a normal thing to do.

Mouse-less No More!

My friend's dad arrived from UK a few days ago so I was able to get my purchases from Ebay(UK) last January. I bought myself a mouse among others and I got this TRUST Slimline Wireless Mouse 16339 for GBP 16.94. The mouse looks cute but for someone who got used at manipulating a bulky and comfortable mouse, I did not like it. But I am going to give it another try before I am going to resell this on Ebay(Philippines) and I will just get a new one that is more comfortable even though it will be bulky. The functions of the mouse is awesome though, and the packaging is great. But as I have said, using it is uncomfortable where I always feel I'll have a carpal tunnel syndrome.

Aside from the mouse, I also bought a Uniross Express Mini Charger.

I had to buy this one because the cable of our 6 year old Kodak charger is missing and I am very impatient with looking for lost stuffs. I think I had a good deal with this because it comes with 6 AA batteries aside from the 2 AAA batteries for FREE! Oh I know I am such a freeloader, haha! Anyway, what good does this event in my life? I can only think of one thing: scrap more pages. You have to admit, scrapping without a mouse is hellish.

Monday Mayhem #2 - The Valentine's Meme

Happy Valentine’s Day my dear friends! What are your plans for today? As for me, I will be with my kids, as usual, and if laziness will not creep in to me later this day, we will probably go out for a dinner.

In honor of Valentines Day, today's meme is all about the things that we love. For each prompt, name something you love.

1. Name a food that you love.

Anything pasta. May it be lasagna, fetuccine bolognese, carbonara, name it!

2. Name someone that you love.

If it has nothing to do with romantic love then I say that I love my kids and I don’t have to explain why. BUT, if this question is pertaining to a romantic involvement, my answer would be Chris Pine. He’s the apple of my eye.

3. What kinds of ice cream do you love?

I like pistachio, mint chocolate, or brownie nut fudge.

4. What would you love to receive for Valentine’s Day?

A massage gift certificate would be nice. J A romantic getaway for two with Chris Pine will really blow me away!

5. What meal would you just love to eat for dinner?

For appetizer, pigs in blanket or pesto bites would do fine. Glazed lamb is great as a main course! And for dessert, the very best chocolate lava in town. Served with wine of course.

6. What is something that you learned to love?

I kind of learned to love myself more now. It’s quite scary for a moment because when I embraced myself and my whole being I started to be skeptical of other people and romantic love.

7. Tell us something that we would love.

I have a confession to make. I am a princess. However, I am a tranny. You can call me a Princess Tranny.

8. What is your definition of love?

Love is not overrated; people just abuse its purpose. It is a mysterious thing that makes people do outrageous acts.

9. What is it that you love more than anything?

I love being a mom even though I am not a perfect one and I have my lapses. Seeing my twins giggle so hard because of their eldest brother is a 7th heaven for me. And receiving a hug and hearing compliments like, “Mom you are beautiful and sexy” even though I know they’re only half meant gives me a certain high that is capable of melting my heart.

This is the only Monday Meme that I have done so I will be biased.

When Winning Isn't Everything

For a couple of weeks now I have been participating in a game at DigiShopTalk wherein there is a random giveaway given when the contest host says STOP. Basically you have to post in the particular forum thread and cross your fingers or try your luck. It’s that easy, and so far contest winners have been given kits, coupons and the biggest prize of all – unlimited access to the host’s store.

I thought of it as a great opportunity at first, not being a part of any CT, joining the contest will help me hoard kits to scrap at my leisure time. And then I met the people I am in the competition with. I am not really a sociable type of person but if you embrace my craziness then I get to loosen up and be funny. Posting in the thread is not about the contest anymore, it was more like a seal of friendship that I had made in digiscrapping world.

Don’t get me wrong, I have had a few acquaintances when I was in a CT of several designers but the friendship somehow just ended when I left the team. But now I have met very nice people from different parts of the world! Our time zones are absurd but we get to cause clamor in the thread all at the same time. So I have had sleepless nights recently and I have been late for work too. However, getting to know the girls is a priceless thing and I wouldn’t trade that for anything. I wonder what happens when the contest ends. Somehow, posting in the thread doesn’t seem like a competition. Getting to know the girls and being friends with them is a big prize enough for me.

MLAS - The Final Curtain Call

Participating in digiscrap challenges is really not my thing until I stumbled upon My Life and Scrap (MLAS) where there was a lyrics challenge and the challenge master had this dare that if the challenge gets a lot of participants, she will do a headstand. To make the long story short, we got our headstand.

MLAS has played a vital part in my digiscrapping life because that’s where I started. That’s where I explored the big world of digital scrapping and I know that you would understand my sadness when I received my last newsletter from MLAS announcing that the store is closing. Oh why but why? I do not know.

So as a tribute to MLAS, I am making this post to give my hats off to the owners at MLAS. Here are some of my fondest memories of the store.

1. I was able to meet designers who hired me to be in their CT. As a beginner, I felt so honored to be hired you know. It’s a lot different than applying though the perks are the same.

2. The people in MLAS had motivated me to do things that I was hesitant to do, like applying as a CT member of my favorite designers. “There’s nothing to lose” is what the girls always tell me.

3. There was one time when MLAS had to shut down because they are transferring to a better server and the transfer took longer than what we had expected. We all suffered from severe MLAS withdrawal. And lastly,

4. I purchased my first kit at MLAS, and it was just not a kit for my own consumption but the kit was for the benefit of a charity institution that the owners and designers are supporting.

And as the final curtain call for MLAS, here are two layouts I created in the challenges.

The first page was an entry to the font challenge and the second one was for the lyrics challenge that I was talking about. Anyway, as MLAS final call before their dramatic closing on Valentine's Day, they are having a SALE in all of the kits.

What's Your Scrapping Style?

I was never an element person; my style is clean and simple. I think I have this fondness for papers and fonts with a lot of love for journaling. Although at times there instances where I try not to do journaling because I hate it when I get so chatty that I type the keyboard so hard – that’s how passionate I am with speaking my mind. Anyway, I still don’t know what my style is but I know one thing for sure: I work better when under pressure. But don’t we all?

Here are some of my pages that have journaling in it.

Which style do you think I can do better? If you notice I rarely do clustering ((because I don’t know how) and I seldom use too many elements. I think clean and simple is my thing. But I do envy scrappers who can pull off such thing!

Anyway, I received a very nice email this afternoon when I came home from work. I found out that I won in Skute Design's kit-naming contest and I won a whooping $10 gift certificate to her store at Scrap Angels Shop! So Karina's been having some difficulty in naming her girl-themed kit and she doesn't want the common names like Sugar and Spice to be the title. That's how she thought of the contest and I gave her the name DIVATTITUDE which of course was derived from the phrase that I thought of a long time ago which is "diva with an attitude." So there, I won a GC and I also get to snag her Boys R Us (a boy themed kit, this is somewhat the inspiration in making the girl kit) kit and also the Div@ttitude (it is not being released yet but I got it already and it is soooo cute!). As to how I am going to spend my GC? I am waiting for the right moment yet because it is so hard to pick! However, Skute Design is on sale right now so you might want to check it out!

Why Preschool

Being a preschool educator has its ups and downs. Whenever I go to our division office for transactions, the people there ask me what grade level I am teaching and whenever I say I teach preschool, they will always reply with “WHY PRESCHOOL?” My answer will always be, “Why not? It’s fun.”

Teaching preschool children has more ups than downs. Yes of course your energy will get drained after all that singing, dancing and animations that you do –and I do it twice a day since I am handling two sessions. Physically draining, yes but the fruit of your labor is priceless.

Why Preschool? The kids are genuine people; they are very honest and kind hearted. They will believe whatever it is that you say. Heck, they believe you more than their own parents! Aside from that, I love the look of innocence in their eyes. I love the way when they forget about themselves and suddenly they call me “Mama, Ina or Ma” – that’s priceless.

Why Preschool? I love children and I love to hear stories from their mothers about their progress. A few weeks ago, a mother asked me how come whenever she teaches her child two lines of a poem for the whole day, her child will never get to memorize a line but when the child spends at least an hour in school, she can memorize a stanza of the poem. My answer was, “It’s magic.” LOL

Why Preschool? Because I like it when my pupils tell me that I am beautiful; one pupil of mine was reportedly bragging to her playmates at home that her teacher is beautiful. Her playmates ended up visiting our classroom to confirm if she’s telling the truth or not. LOL. I gave all of them lollipops as a bribe since I looked like a trash that day.

Why Preschool? I can tell you a number of things more but I don’t want to gloat myself.

The 38 year old man reported to have suffered from amnesia after the accident and was said to be forgetting that he has a wife. He refused to go home insisting that he should be left alone to create new memories.

The package was left unattended at a local church which left the people attending the mass alarmed. Upon calling the FBI and SWAT and upon clearing the said area, a little boy went inside the church to get the package which turned out to be some kind of a takeout a Happy Meal from Mc Donald’s.

3. Parrots tend to be "left handed," study finds

Acclaimed researchers have found out that the parrots are left handed. Too bad we cannot see them write.

5.Opinion: Why refs 'swallow the whistle'

Further investigation on ball games and other competitive sports said that the referees/umpires in the games may be having anxiety attacks whenever the game is in full throttle. I think that they may be anxious whether or not they call on a bad call so that they can win the bet back home.

6. Man gets 9 years in cartoon attack

A reputable suburban man was charged of 9 years imprisonment after having attacked the mascot of Looney Tunes’ Porky Pig. The man claimed that Porky Pig ruined his life although he did not elaborate on why.

7. Lohan's attorney denies actress stole necklace

Lindsay Lohan’s representative Atty. Mohan has denied allegations that his client stole a piece of jewelry Sunday night. Atty. Mohan was quoted saying, “Miss Lindsay Lohan may be a drug junkie, she may be a lot of things, but never a thief.” Lindsay and her family are all mum about the allegation.

Life in Shambles

For three consecutive Saturdays now, we went around the community to conduct a census to all 4-6 year old children who are entering preschool and first grade this coming school year. I have to say that every immersion is an eye opener for I have never seen people so poor and it was very heartbreaking.

When we conducted the census, we have to interview the children and their parents as to where they are going to school or why are they not in school. Every answer is different from the other but it sure does give only one reason and that is poverty. Some children had to work so that they can feed themselves while some are helping their parents. I remember last week when we interviewed two children aging 14 and 16 respectively, the young boy said that he only went to school up to third grade. When we convinced him to go back to school, his elder sister interrupted us by saying that he cannot go back to school because no one would help her in making nipa huts to sell so that they can support their younger siblings. Their parents died and they are forced to make a living for their family. I wondered where the social welfare service of the government is; those children are in need of their help and guidance. However, upon giving much effort in convincing them to go back to school, they told us that they will try but they will be absent from class often because they have to work.

Seeing people like them makes me feel fortunate with my life and it inspires me to be of service to them and give my best in teaching them to read and write. This morning, we went to a far out community to do our recruitment and survey. The area was obviously very far that we had to cross swampy areas in order for us to reach out to the homes of the people. Albeit is was hard, so hard that I actually cursed my job while crossing that swampy and muddy area, listening to the people’s stories will make you realize why they are hesitant to go to school. There was only a minimal means of transportation and the fare that you have to pay is twice as expensive as to that of the regular fare. And the livelihood of the people there is very inadequate to get by day by day. Nevertheless, we still convinced them to sacrifice and send their children to school. Now I realize why our parents say that the only legacy that they can give us is our education and that is priceless.

Every day is a sacrifice. Every day is a struggle. Every day is toil. Even so, each new day is a sign hope. It is about desire and ambition. Everything should be treated with optimism. And then we will be okay.

Be Serene

In contrast to this funny quote at the left, today is an overwhelming day for me. I do not need to be more serene than this day because I can feel that everything's in its place.

I had a talk with a friend last night and aside from the usual bullying of words with the blow by blow account of our silly deeds, we actually shared our "hopes and dreams" in a semi-brutal way; just the way we are. We have known each other for such a long time but never got the chance to really talk in a serious manner so last night was a breakthrough for us. And it's nice. Really nice.

Aside from this incident with a friend, I also had a chat with my best friend P after a long long time of not having a serious chat. Given our crazy time zones, our chats have always been just a simple Q&A for almost two years now. Maybe I was in a sentimental mood or maybe the moon's just full last night that we get so serious with looking back at our lives and plan ahead. We realized a lot of things actually. We're turning 28 this year and I realized the time when we were younger, our ideal age of marrying is 25; and three years after that ideal age, nobody's married until now. It is quite ironic when you look at it. When you're young, you cannot wait to grow old and when you're encountering that specific age, you want things to be steady. Life's too beautiful to just elope or get marry.

Okay, okay, that last line has always been my line. Getting married is actually a joyous event but you know, when one is married the freedom of living a carefree life will be put to a stop. And I don't want that. My other friend K and I don't want that. We're just enjoying and we wanted to explore the world and have a good time. But then again, maybe when the moment is there and you are put on a do or die situation, you will really submit yourself and say yes to marriage. And I just want to clarify that I love weddings. I am not like a scrooge at weddings, in fact, I cry at weddings. I love the idea of two families joining together in supporting the newlywed couple. I adore the idea of seeing my friends happy and contented at their wedding day. I just abhor the idea of me being a bridesmaid and have to be forced to wear a gown that I don't like and the accessories I find too crass. But that's another story. My friends have tastes you know; and they're not tacky thankbejeezus.

So anyway, the purpose of writing this albeit lengthy post is that I am very much overwhelmed with joy to know that my friend K, that carefree, happy go lucky girl is now engaged. I don't think I will be a bridesmaid but I will be there on her wedding day nevertheless. And I will have my gown made by the same designer I had at our friend C's wedding. I wish her all the best. It's almost game over for you my dear, and I am sincerely and genuinely happy for you. I am on a high.

And lastly, to all of my friends mentioned above; A, P, and K, I love you. Let's plan more and more soon.
